Treasures of Our Storied Past

With the museum closed during the virus, we produced two slideshows from our archives and posted them on YouTube. They are linked below. Simply choose a slideshow, click the link and enjoy!

1. The Bagshaw Collection

2. The Signs of Sunderland's Historic Past

A Walking Tour of Sunderland: An Historical Perspective

There are a variety of ways that you might take a walking tour of the original streets of Jones Corners, now the village of Sunderland.

1. Take the tour virtually on your computer. Go to: https://youtu.be/VGdxOCo3nzA

2. Open https://youtu.be/VGdxOCo3nzA on your phone and listen to the narration as you walk the route.

3.Starting at the museuem, retrieve a pamphlet from the old library night drop box.  Using your phone  (4G LTE req'd), take a photo of the QR codes placed at each site. A history of the site along with a picture taken in earlier times will appear on your phone.

Geocaching Project

Geocaching is fun and engages individuals and families in healthy outdoor activity. With the support of Canadian Heritage we have created and placed geocaches at a number of sites of historical significance about the community.

Each cache contains a small booklet commenting on the historical importance of the site. In addition to healthy exercise, by finding our caches you will learn of our community's proud history. Click on the image to the left for a listing of our geocaches. All you need is a phone.

Podcast Project

The podcast is becoming a powerful educational tool. These topical audio productions are not unlike the radio programs some us enjoyed in our youth. These podcasts reside on the world wide web and are accessed either through a WIFI or cellular connection. They can be downloaded for a later listening experience. People often create a playlist of podcast episodes to listen to while driving.

In our most recent project, the S&DHS has created a podcast entitled, "Reflections in Our Rearview Mirror". In each episode an artifact from our museum's collection is selected and its historical relevance explored. Our hope is to produce one episode per month. Our first episode has now been produced and posted. It can be heard at Glimpses in Our Rearview Mirror | Podcast on Spotify

Once a few episodes are completed, they will be listed on our Publications page.

Activities for Schools

Dousing Demonstration: Dousing was used to locate the well site on many of the farms in Brock Township. To arrange a demonstration on dousing and the science behind it, give us a call or send a note.
